For a child experiencing foster care, life may look very different.
Foster care can bring changes in homes, schools, routines, and relationships. In the middle of all that change, birthdays still come. And every child deserves the opportunity to feel remembered when theirs does.
Florida's child welfare system recognizes the importance of giving children in foster care opportunities to experience the same milestones and everyday moments as other children—including birthdays.
At FosterJoy, we believe those moments matter.
That's why we created the Birthday Box Program.
Each box is prepared with age-appropriate gifts, birthday treats, decorations, and celebration supplies to help foster families make a child's birthday feel special.
But the box isn't really about what's inside.
It's about what happens when a child realizes someone remembered.
It's hearing their name alongside “Happy Birthday.” It's blowing out candles and making a wish. It's opening something chosen with them in mind. It's having a moment in the middle of everything else that's simply about being a kid.
A birthday box can't change everything a child may be experiencing.
But it can help change one day.
And sometimes one day is an opportunity to communicate something every child deserves to hear:
